To the Spanish adjuncts who will teach with this OER book

We challenge Spanish adjuncts to collectively think and explore the archive as a teaching resource to center the Latinx experiences and histories in the Spanish curriculum. Building on your frustrations about teaching with textbooks that do not represent your as well as your students’ backgrounds, we took advantage of your creativity and teaching skills to produce curricular interventions in your classes. We recognize that curricular interventions are not an easy enterprise because they need to align with course requirements and departmental goals. Some of you will have to negotiate the scale of your curricular intervention with chairs and coordinators, others will have to deal with required textbooks, and some of you will have more freedom to intervene in the syllabus or create a new one from scratch. We hope you get inspired by our guiding questions and resolutely affirm that the Spanish language curriculum needs cultural pluralism for positive social transformation. Taking our goal as a starting point, we hope that you can take the project further by thinking, for example, about how to make your students archive producers. This was a new question that emerged at the end of our peer-mentoring process, a sign that the seed found fertile ground to grow, and we hope that you can explore the idea further.
