The Futurism of Young Asia,

and Other Essays on the Relations Between the East and the West

Benoy Kumar SarkarAuthor

This book is a collection of essays concerning the unjust social, political, and economic relations between Eur-America (the West) and Asian countries (the East). In Prof. Sarkar's own words, the intention behind this volume is "war against colonialism in politics and against 'orientalisme' in science" (Preface, II.). In other words, he wants to politically challenge the West's exploitation of the East, and culturally challenge the many longstanding misrepresentations of Asian countries in European and American social science, philosophy and history.

To accomplish these goals, he highlights and mobilizes various histories of high-quality social science scholarship from the Asian continent. He also details a whole swath of shortcomings, misrepresentations, and racist misconceptions that plague European and American scholarship about Asian societies. He corrects the long-biased academic canon from the West using Asian scholarship (and even some Asian religious doctrines) to vehemently advocate for the political, economic, and cultural decolonization of all Asian nations. There is a particular emphasis, however, on his home country: India.
