BMCC History Collection

Given the proximity to the World Trade Center, BMCC holds a significant number of materials about September 11th within its BMCC History Collection. The full collection includes reports, publications, correspondence, event programs, news clippings, media, and artifacts beginning with the College’s establishment in 1963. Researchers will be particularly interested in Series 6: September 11, 2001 and aftermath, 2001-2002. Within this series, there are memorial ribbons and rolled posters in tubes (2-7).

Audiovisual Collection

This collection contains audiovisual materials documenting the history of the school, from its founding in 1963 up to the 2010s. In Series 1: BMCC History, Subseries I: 9/11 History, there are videos including recorded interviews relating to 9/11. On their YouTube channel, BMCC also hosts digitized videos produced in remembrance of 9/11 using archival footage and interviews:

  • 9/11 and BMCC
  • BMCC 9-11 Part 1
  • BMCC 9-11 Part 2
  • 9/11 and BMCC: Remembrance and Resilience

BMCC Campus Photo Collection

Series II: Campus and Activities (Box 8) contains photos of the campus and the emergency response after 9/11, most of which are digitized and available on JSTOR.

The BMCC Archives is open by appointment only to faculty and students of the college and to other researchers. For an appointment please contact archives@bmcc.cuny.edu
