The Great Lawsuit

A CUNY Student Edition

CUNY Student Editions are scholarly, peer-reviewed, accessibly designed editions of historical texts.

In “The Great Lawsuit,” Margaret Fuller positions herself as women’s legal council to argue on their behalf for their lawful rights to the same opportunities as men. The work was first published in The Dial in 1843, and later expanded it into the book-length Woman in the Nineteenth Century (1845).

This edition is edited by Christina Katopodis based on the first publication in The Dial.

The edition includes an introduction, notes, and resources.
