This collection incorporates recordings made between 1928 and 1961. In an effort to be as comprehensive as possible, it includes tracks which clearly represent conga santiaguera (the Chant du Monde and Panart recordings), as well as others that might be considered "conga-adjacent" (The Matamoros, Hermanos Bravo, and Estrellas de Chocolate tracks). The latter sound like conscious attempts to emulate conga in a "dance band" format but lack some of the conga's essential rhythmic elements.
