g. Engraving of a theodolite

An engraving of a theodolite used in field for recording direction, horizontally and angularly. Tis piece is fitted with telescopes to allow for sighting longer distances with greater precision. Notations would be made in the field notebook, then transferred to a drawing in a field tent or other shelter (Source: Encyclopedia of Source Illustrations).
