December 17, 1990 [*Civil Service Sentinel*] Retired NYC Transit Police Meet Jan. 9 Charles Olsen, L.M., Executive Secretary of the NYC Retired Transit Police Officer’s Assn., announced that the next meeting of the association will be held on Wednesday, January 9, 1991 at the Floor Park Masonic Temple, Carnation and Tulip Avenues, Floor Park, NY (opposite the L.I.R.R). President Michael Spadafora announced that the association’s gun club has obtained the use of the range facilities at Floyd Bennet Field. Further info can be obtained by calling 718-234-0920. The dinner-dance of the association, held on November 2nd in Leonard’s of Great Neck, was a huge success with close to 300 members and guests attending. Plaques for dedicated service were awarded to former Sgt-at-Arms Bob Rice, 1st V.P. Charles Farkouh, and President Michael Spadafora. It was reported that Joseph Pomare passed away. May God rest his soul. Free Brochure on $$ Scams CSREA Vice-President Richard McCarthy said that CSREA members who don’t want to get caught in a scam and want to be sure that their money is safe can write or call the Institute of Certified Financial Planners for their free brochure that describes many common scams, how to avoid these pitfalls and how to select a qualified financial planner. The brochure, entitled, “Avoiding Investment and Financial Scams: Seeking Full Disclosure is the key” can be obtained by calling 1-800-282-PLAN or writing to the institute at 10065 East Harvard Avenue., Suite 220, Denver, Co. 80231. McCarthy said that many retiring employees borrow 75% of their pension monies, so it may be important for them to write for this brochure. Dep. Mayor’s Son Arrested CSREA President Charles Drha, a retired detective, said that Deputy Mayor Bill Lynch’s son, William Lynch 3rd, 20, was arrested at 5:15 p.m. on Monday, October 23rd, in the Times Square station at 8th Avenue and 42nd Street on charges of fare beating. He was arrested along with seven or eight other riders at the time. The son was taken to the headquarters of Transit Police District 1, at Columbus Circle (59th Street), in Manhattan. He was fingerprinted and photographed. At the time of the arrest, said Drha, his father was reported at a meeting with Mayor Dinkins in City Hall. In September, young Lynch was arrested on a charge of disorderly conduct, allegedly for refusing a police officer’s order to move himself from a park bench in Harlem and then getting into an argument with the cop. That arrest was voided by a deputy inspector of the Police Department.
