A hundred years research has established beyond doubt that self-testing is an excellent way to learn (Rawson and Dunlosky 2011; Roediger and Butler 2011), and it is for this reason that the Anatomy Quizbook uses a question and answer format. Additionally, self-testing has the advantage of enabling students to determine what is known prior to tests and examinations, rather than deficiencies in knowledge becoming evident through poor grades.
