Dear Anthony

I've learned that some mail does not reach me, especi-
ally that from America; and when I do get mail, it comes in
heaps. Just before leaving Warsaw for Paris, I received a large
envelope full of forwarded letters. Thus, I've spent much of my
holiday answering accumulated letters, about 45 in all.
Congratulations on the acceptance of your collection! I
look forward to receiving a copy (at the above address), and let
me know the cost, for I know that giving books away can become
expensive.
I'm not sure whether I'll get to Toulouse or not, this trip.
I want to do some shopping there, or elsewhere, for consumer goods
of many kinds that are non-existent or poor quality in Poland. But if
I don't make it to Place St-Sernin, either because I don't come to
Toulouse or because shopping (all the way from winter boots to screws
for a collapsed table) consumes all of my allotted time, there will be
other chances in '76. I haven't scheduled any poetry readings in France
for this winter and spring, but I do have invitations to Budapest
and Vienna so far - plus the Univ. of Pennsylvania, but when my re-
cent letter reaches Philadelphia and it is discovered that I am in
Poland, that invitation will be postponed, I'm sure. I did give a
reading in Warsaw this month.
Writing by hand, and writing small (a paper-saving habit ac-
quired in Poland), I feel a sense of accomplishment in getting off so
many letters. I've written the drafts of several poems in Warsaw;
but since one carton of notes and books, mailed by me on 4 August
when passing through New York, never reached me, I lose much time
in Warsaw re-reading, re-note-taking, re-annotating, etc., in pre-
parathion for classes. But Warsaw is interesting - and challenging.
But one day we'll talk about Poland, among other things. Hello to
Odile, and HAPPY NEW YEAR.
    Cordially,
      Jim
