Dear Naomi,

 This poor-excuse-for-a-letter comes mainly
to give you my new address, in hopes that you will
find time, one of these days, to write me the main
news from you and Lotus Press.

My departure from New York in June was more than
hectic, in terms of labor, since I had to sort through
and pack the accumulations--literary and otherwise--
of many years. On 31 May, the day before I was to
leave my apartment on East 90th Street, I worked
straight through from 5:30 a.m. till and 5:20 a.m. of the
following day. I really think that very few people
EVER work 24 hours without stopping! And that day was
preceded and followed by somewhat similar days--a
CCNY colleague letting me continue the struggle in
his West Side apartment before the day of flight to
Paris, 5 June. I mailed nine boxes to a sister in
Denver (mostly books), twelve post-office-size boxes
to France, followed by six foot lockers and a pair of
skis. (Two of those foot lockers belonged to my French
friend--who now pursues her librarian's job in a new
country, Germany--so I deduct those from the possessions
that I will further cut down when time allows.)

The trunks sent overseas (picked up in N.Y. on
31 May by International Sea & Air--a firm to avoid)
were to arrive here in 30 or 40 days. But they won't
arrive here before the end of this month. Another story.

Luckily, my troubles with packing and sorting have
developed into a poem that I worked on for three weeks
straight. Soon I'll begin revisions on the third poem
that I've worked on since my arrival. Most of the time
I've just been resting and savoring RETIREMENT.

This note developed into letter-size after all.
I hope that your summer had many moments of pleasure and
that autumn looks good to you. Hello to Leonard.

      Cordial regards,

         Jim
