Dear Naomi
*
I take pleasure in ignoring part (*) of this letterhead, as a sign of
the fact that I have joined the ranks of The Retired: had my "retirement
luncheon" at CCNY before Christmas, almost forgot about it on France on
holidays, received from my Black literature class a farewell present (a
green vase tied with a green ribbon and filled with thank-you letters from
all the students). After turning in grades in a day or so, that's IT.

Two reasons for this note: to wish you and Leonard and yours a HAPPY
NEW YEAR, with not too much work or worry, and to ask you to send me 20
copies of CHISEL, please. One more things (not a bad mistake): please keep
in mind my request for--in connection with CHISEL and BOWL--the kind of
copyright form you sent me regarding BLACK MAN ABROAD. One of my winter
projects, in preparation for my departure from the USA in the spring, will
be the getting together of such documents concerning my workds.

No exciting news here--but I don't any. The anticipation of be-
beginning to write poetry again in springtime, quite imaginably and even
probably in Paris, is better for me than sunshine and good weather.

Tell me a little of your news and literary plans when you can.

        Warmest regards,

           Jim
