Dear Naomi, Please send me, by AIR MAIL, the following books: 5 copies of A Chisel in the Dark 5 copies of The Brown Bowl Using my order for ten copies of Chisel as model for payment, I am assuming that the books will cost me about $34 and the air mail postage about $12. If the enclosed prepayment of $46 is not enough, I'll remit the balance as soon as the books arrive; if it is somewhat too much, don't bother to send me what is left over. On 30 March, I had the unusual first—time experience of reading fifteen or more of my poems with a jazz band, the Chansse Evanns Quintet, featuring "North West Jazz" (Chansse is from Oregon). I read six poems with musical accompaniment--the pianist coming in on three of them without my expecting it! Although the jazzmen of that group will never know it, I was so unsure of how my part of the performance (about 20 percent of the duration) would go that I didn't even send to any acquaintances the handbills that Chansse gave to me. On Sunday morning I leave for my poetry—reading tour of Austria, and it has been confirmed recently that I will also go on that trip to Roumania to read poems and face those rather tough literary men who do their thing behind the Iron Curtain. Otherwise, I am ending a rather quiet winter—and—spring: by now I have eight new poems-- some two pages in length--and am in the midst of negotiations to bring out a partly illustrated, partly bilingual collection.
