Dear Bibbs
Hart Leroy, my friend, thanks a million
for taking the time to spend more than a few min-
utes at my poetry reading at The Village Voice on
Tuesday. After you left, the show went on very
well, and parts of the audience came forth to say
good woods and spend good money after I relaxed
into the chair. (Brought eleven books, took back
home three, having disposed of three copies of
the fat guy, Whole Grain.)
I decided, near the end of my offerings, to
try out my "jazz haiku" on the folks. They liked
them, especially "Satchmo and the Duke," "Jazzanet-
omy," and "Jazznews."
Thanks very much for the nicely autographed
holiday jazzbook, L'épopéo du jazz, with its
fine photos, including your fouratthestartinB&W, and its
instructive text, which I have only begun to sample.
Beautiful book, this #2, Au-delà du bop.
As soon as I get rid of all the various tasks
stacked in piles on my floor, I'll return to poetry.
I have one on the fire now, of course. I hope that
your own front burners are paying their way.

     Ciao for now,
      Jim
         Emanuel
