Audio Collection
The James A. Emanuel Project’s Audio Collection contains twelve recordings all from the Recorded Sound Research Center at the Library of Congress’ Package Campus of National Audio-Visual Conservation Center.
Spanning a forty-one-year period, the earliest audio recording in this collection is an “Interview with Langston Hughes by James A. Emanuel, January 29, 1965.” Over forty minutes in length, this interview is recorded between the period in which Emanuel completed his Ph.D. project focusing on Hughes’s short stories (1962) and his Langston Hughes (1967), the first book of scholarship on Hughes. The most recent audio recording is a “Radio Interview with James A. Emanuel by Avishay Artsy, 4/29/06,” a concise, informative overview of Emanuel’s life aired on National Public Radio. Additional recordings include poetry readings, family messages, and more interviews.
