With the invented term "Necropastoral," McSweeney conjures a decadent ecopoetics that reflects the state of "Nature" in our present moment, a nature that is contagious, contaminated, brooding, eventful, marked by extinction, mutation, and the extreme. The Necropastoral is imagined as a zone of exchange, of "strange meetings." This model—and this term—has in turn given rise to an array of art projects that make contact with, adjust and mutate the occult capacity of the Necropastoral.
