The author and Mililián Galis Riverí (b. 1939).
Galis is widely considered to be the “elder statesman” of Afro-Cuban percussion in Santiago. His groundbreaking book *La percusión en los ritmos afrocubanos y haitiano-cubanos *(Percussion in Afro-Cuban and Haitian-Cuban Rhythms) is the most authoritative source available on the conga's early history.
