4. Exhibit 3B: CCISD School Segregation Data
Housing segregation, of course, led to school segregation. Below are excerpts from the plaintiff’s exhibit 3B, which lists the race and ethnicity of students and staff at CCSID high schools, junior highs, and grade schools during the 1968-1969 school year.
The overall student population at CCISD high schools, for example, was 39.7% Mexican American, 4.5% African American, and 55.7% Anglo/white.
Significantly different ratios were reflected at individual schools, though, for example: Carrol High School (80.3% Anglo/white), King (92.3% Anglo/white), and Moody (85.5% Mexican American).
CCISD junior high and elementary schools, which served far more students, were similarly skewed, for example: Prescott Elementary (95.1% Mexican American), Southgate Elementary (91.7% Mexican American), Woodlawn Elementary (90.9% Anglo/white), and Wilson Elementary (97.6% Anglo/white students; 100% Anglo/white staff).
