The Transactional Nature of Place and Its Relevance for Social Justice
Valkiria Duran (College of Staten Island, CUNY)
Valkiria Duran (College of Staten Island, CUNY) will address the urgent need for a critical examination of situated place and people transactions, as they serve to reproduce social structure. She will also highlight the relevance of treating places as complex, culturally constructed, and politically charged and their significance in people’s perceptions of themselves and their possibilities. In addition, she will explain the importance of using the understanding of place for the collective transformation of places and the creation of dynamics of liberation.
