The New Empowerment Program for People with MCI at Emory
Jennifer DuBose (SimTigrate Design Lab, Georgia Institute of Technology)
Despite the growing number of people diagnosed with mild cognitive impairment, few resources exist to help these people and their loved ones actively participate in their own care and influence the trajectory of their disease. A new, first-of-its-kind, empowerment program for people with MCI is being created in Atlanta through a partnership between Emory and Georgia Institute of Technology. This program, funded by the Cox Foundation, will be a living laboratory combining expertise in therapy, built environment, technology and innovation to deliver a unique suite of services to people with MCI – called ‘fellows’ in this program. In this presentation you will learn about the programs that will be offered to the fellows, the goals of empowerment, research agenda in the built environment core, ways that the innovation accelerator will be structured to speed up the identification of solutions and our hopes for positive effects of the design of lighting.
