How can the story of Pinocchio educate children to behave in a good manner?
Most people know the story of Pinocchio and his most famous trait which is when he lies the bigger his nose gets, in the Disney version (Pinocchio 1940) the story starts with an Italian man called Geppetto sees a falling star and wishes that the puppet he just finished will come to life. Then a blue fairy grants the wish and asks Jiminy Cricket to act as Pinocchio’s conscience. This is a short summary of the Disney version, but the real version is darker than one will expect. In the original story (The Adventures of Pinocchio 1883) Pinocchio killed Jiminy the talking Cricket with a hammer, he was fully transforming into a donkey, and he got his leg burned and was left for dead hanging by a cat and a fox dressed as bandits. Surely by one reading the original story, there is no way that it can be converted into a film for the entertainment of kids, but Disney decided to give it a try and end up with a successful movie film. This is not the only case where Disney has converted horror stories into movies for kids, great examples of this are Cinderella, The Little Mermaid , etc. making them into classic movies Disney.
The main reason for writing this story was to educate children that with every action there are consequences, since Pinocchio most of the time is doing bad things and is considered a bad marionette, there is always a way that in the story he pays for his actions, and in the end of the movie he ends up becoming a real child because he learned how to be obedient since this story was written on the year 1883 there was not a lot of bad comments on the story, and even receive good critic by the readers, nowadays one cannot expect a story like the adventures of Pinocchio 1884 to be a story for children since it will be classified as 18+.
Pinocchio has also made other appearances with other companies such as Dreamwork (Shrek movies) and in these days with Netflix by the director Guillermo del Toro, in Dreamwork version Pinocchio it seems like a lousy character that helps his friend but still have that dream of becoming a real boy, in the new movie of Pinocchio by Guillermo del Toro the story takes references from the original story but still keeping the movie rated for families to enjoy the movie.
