A Celebration of Easter: History, Traditions, and Cultures Around the World

Welcome!! This Easter resource collection was created to help students and teachers through exploring the meaning, traditions, and global celebration of Easter. Included are three engaging resources that will help students better understand how Easter came to be. The resources range from including slides, activities, and worksheets. These resources build upon one another in a sequential order and can be used across multiple days.

More so than just learning about Easter, this resource unit will help in strengthening important skills used in our classrooms today. Through reading, discussion, collaboration, and expansion of cultural knowledge students will be engaging in comprehension, communication, critical thinking, and awareness of diversity. These activities align with the work we do as teachers by encouraging active learning, student engagement, and building an appreciation and awareness for diverse cultures and traditions.

Suggested Teaching Order

Part 1 – History of Easter

To start off this will introduce students to the origins and backgrounds of Easter. This section is important and helps students develop a foundational understanding before exploring modern celebrations and traditions.

Included Resources:

• Part 1: History of Easter Worksheet

Teaching Focus:

Historical background, reading comprehension, vocabulary development, and discussion skills.

Part 2 – Traditions of Easter

After students have built the foundational understanding behind the history of Easter, transition to learning about common Easter traditions and symbols used in celebration.

• Part 2: Tradition of Easter Activity

Teaching Focus:

Cultural traditions, symbolism, comparing past and present celebrations, and collaborative learning.

Part 3 – Easter Around the World

Concluding this unit is the exploration of how Easter is celebrated among different cultures around the world and different countries. This will allow students to connect their learning globally and appreciate diversity, seeing how a specific holiday can be celebrated in many different ways by many different people .

Teaching Focus:

Global awareness, cultural appreciation, comparing traditions, and critical thinking.

Unit Goals:

Through these lessons and activities, students will:

• Build understanding of the history and meaning of Easter
• Learn about important Easter traditions and symbols
• Explore how cultures around the world celebrate Easter
• Strengthen reading comprehension and discussion skills
• Engage in meaningful, hands-on learning experiences

Teacher Notes:

This resource collection is designed to be flexible and can be used across multiple instructional days. Teachers may choose to:

• Teach one part per day
• Integrate activities into literacy centers
• Use slides for whole-group instruction
• Assign worksheets and activities independently or collaboratively
