“18th Brunaire of Louis Bonaparte” in “The Eighteenth Brumaire of Louis Bonaparte”
- [←13 ]
On February 24, 1848 Louis Philippe abdicated in favour of his grandson, the Count of Paris. In view of the latter’s minority, his mother, the Duchess of Orleans, was to assume the regency. But the King’s abdication failed to halt the development of the revolution. Under pressure from the insurgent masses a Provisional Government was set up which proclaimed a republic the next day.
