For this assignment, I am going to show the class how to use the instructional tool called Kami. Kami is a digital learning platform that can be used to aid in the success of students in the classroom by helping reach the needs of all learners. There are many different features that can be used to help the class as a whole, as well as specific students who might need additional tools to help them complete their assignments to the best of their abilities.
I worked alone on this assignment, so I completed the entire project. I have made an infographic that describes how Kami can be used and why it is beneficial to students. I also created a powerpoint that describes some of the features specifically, with pictures so the audience can learn a little bit about how to use Kami and hopefully use this platform in their own classrooms.
Kami is easy to download, and easily connects with any Google or OneDrive (Microsoft) account. This feature allows documents to save as progress is being made, which is very helpful to many students as they often forget to save their work. It also allows for all work to be kept in one spot so students can stay organized and not worry about not remembering where they saved a document and being unable to find it.
This tool is extremely beneficial for students in the classroom for many reasons. First, all paper and pencil assignments can now be digital which is exciting for students. Many of them prefer to complete their work digitally so that they can type directly on a document. On the other hand, there are plenty of students who argue that physically writing works better for them so they need paper. Kami allows students to write or draw directly on PDFs, so paper is really no longer needed. By sharing a worksheet with students via Kami, those who prefer to handwrite can do so directly on the device and those who want to type can do that as well. This truly helps with Universal Design for Learners (UDL) which is where all learning styles and accommodations can be met in the classroom. Secondly, as mentioned before, teachers and students do not have to worry about losing work because there is always a digital copy saved to their Drive, which helps everyone with organization.
Oftentimes, being unorganized is the reason students miss assignments, so using Kami can help students with this. Once this document is uploaded, it is accessible from anywhere which can help busy teachers or students who are often not in the same place to complete their work. Thirdly, accommodations like text to speech software and speech to text, larger font can all be easily implemented using Kami. This can help teachers modify assessments to meet the needs of their individual students.
Students are usually more inclined to do work when it is on the computer because it is more fun for them. They grew up using technology, and technology is a huge part of the work today so we should let them use whatever tools with which they are comfortable and successful. Lastly, Kami allows students and teachers to make comments on each other’s work either in the written or text form, a voice memo, or a video format. It also has the ability for students in math class to input lines, symbols, shapes, etc. so that they can solve equations and perform operations online as well.
Kami is a great tool for schools to use. Although there is no research to back up these claims, Kami truly allows students to be creative and allows them to annotate documents in a way that works for their individual learning style. It has many helpful tools to meet students’ needs and allows everyone to create, complete and grade assignments all in one place.
Thanks Jordana!
I sincerely appreciate your enthusiasm for Kami!
Please see my feedback above regarding specific points about your text.
Perhaps add a specific case study (or individual lesson or subject matter) to provide a more specific context for Kami. You give a good overview, but a more detailed individual account might make your great intro to Kami even deeper and better.
Also, perhaps talk about its audience (K-8, K-12, K-20), students/subjects/project. it might work best for, and what is missing if you do not have a paid subscription.
Thanks for all!
