“Add A Text”
Add a Text
This quick guide walks you through the steps to add a Text to an already created project in Manifold. It assumes that you have either a compatible file on your computer or have a URL for a Google Doc, EPUB or HTML file.
Compatible File Types
There are five file types that you can use to create a Manifold Text: EPUB, Word .docx, Google doc (Share link), Markdown, HTML)
Enter Admin Mode
First, go to cuny.manifoldapp.org and log in. Click on the “Enter Admin Mode” button in the upper right hand corner (If you do not see the “Enter Admin Mode” button, contact us at manifold@gc.cuny.edu).
You should now be on your Dashboard in the Backend of Manifold – you will always know when you are in the backend because the screen will go dark. Select the Project you would like to add a Text to by clicking on the title. This will open the Project.
Now select Texts from the left-side menu.
Create a Text
From the Texts page, click on the + Add a new text button.
A drawer will open from the right-side of the screen.
Upload a File or URL
Here you will have the option to drag and drop your file, upload a file directly from your computer (click Upload A File) or add the URL (Share link) for a Google doc – the Share link must be set to “Anyone with the link can view” – you can also use this option is you have a URL that directly links to an EPUB or HTML file.
Once you have added your file or URL, click on the Continue button.
Ingest the File or URL
Manifold will display two messages in the Log, “Connecting to the Manifold websocket…” and then “Successfully connected to websocket.” After this happens, click on the Start Ingestion button.
Manifold will begin processing your file. If your ingestion (Manifold speak for upload) you will see a message at the bottom of the Log that says “Ingestion Complete.” Once you see that, click the Complete button.
You should now see your newly ingested file in the Text page of your Project.
