Notes on the Declaration of Independence

  1. Many of you will probably be familiar with parts of the Declaration, especially the Intro and the first sentence of two of the Preamble.
  2. Because of the Declaration’s structure, it isn’t as difficult to excerpt as some of the others here. Focus on what you’re researching, and allow that to guide you.
  3. When you recite an excerpt, remember that this is a document written in protest and anger. Your voice needs to be strident here.
  4. Possible topics here include any of the Intolerable Acts, the Boston Massacre, the First or Second Continental Congress, the French and Indian War, or any of the signatories.
  5. Here is the Resource Collection. This is not an exhaustive collection of resources, but it does give you a place to start.
