Canto XVII

January

I ran back into your arms

I have missed you so wretchedly

The gestation is about to end

Our faith is coming into light

I was ready to plume our nest

But you were not ready to stay

You continue to be a visitor

Leaving me no option but to move on

Nothing has been greater in my life

Than this love I feel for you

But I’m tired of shedding countless tears

Of waiting in vain for your time and attention

I have to move on

The pain is excruciating.

You flew an arrow through my chest

My heart has been brought to a halt

I drive home

“Open your mouth and breathe deeply”

Says the Wind.

Through my breath, your soul departs me

You stop. Smile, and into the wind

I kiss you goodbye.

I don’t know if this goodbye is forever

I don’t know what will be of our lives

I can only account for the great love I carry inside

A love that dreams of beautiful summer days

Of running with the wind by the sea and ending at our nest again

Love I have found

Therefore, love can’t find me

Unless, by some miracle,

You can remove the arrow you pierced through my heart.
