About the Author

This is my third book, and my second poetry book. The Holy Spirit of poetry descended upon me at the age of twelve. At first, it was an escape from the physical and emotional abuse I received from members of my community while growing up in the suburbs of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. But soon, poetry became my world, the only thing that made sense to me. Through words, I found a way out of my sorrows. I learned to see life in the most colorful and meaningful way. I realized that I could give life a new light, and transform pain into something exquisite.

For many years, I didn’t trust my words. I sensed a great lack of perfection. I didn’t have a language of my own! I had to quit school during fifth grade to live in the streets of Rio after being thrown out of home. This affected greatly my confidence in my ability to write.

At the age of twenty-one, I started to attend college and through my writing classes, I rediscovered my passion for writing. However, the need for an immediate income pulled me towards a business degree followed by another in Economics and Italian Language and Literature.

It was not until 2007, at the age of twenty-nine, after finishing my second college degree and traveling the world for a year to discover myself that I finally decided to make writing a priority in my life. Since then, I have become an English as a Second Language (ESL) and then an English Literature high school teacher in order to better the only language that I feel confident when expressing myself, English. I have written myriad types of poems throughout the years about nature, people, places, politics and love. Now, I have decided to work on collections and publish them in hope of sharing the same beauty I found in the world of words with others.
