Gowanus Lowlands: Remaking a Superfund Site

Leah Wener

Gowanus canal is a former Superfund site that is undergoing rapid transformation. Gowanus is currently responding to Superfund cleanup and a city rezoning process that will fundamentally change the waterfront and transform land uses along the canal. This workshop will explore current initiatives to reduce storm water runoff into the canal through new green infrastructure. Participants will also learn about the Gowanus Lowlands Master Plan – a collaborative, community-driven vision for parks and public space centered on the Gowanus Canal.
