8.5.8 Geographic Location

Geographic location is another factor that may affect whether individuals receive healthcare (NCHS, 2019). Individuals in rural areas receive less healthcare access and utilization than those in urban areas. Of all children aged 19–35 months in the U.S. in 2017, 29.6% did not receive adequate vaccination coverage. Children living in rural areas received the appropriate vaccination less than their urban counterparts (66.8% compared to 71.9%, respectively) (NCHS) (Figure 8.6).
