Quick Guide: Customizing Your Project’s Hero Block
This quick guide assumes you have admin status in Manifold and have already created a project. If you need to be given admin status, contact us at kmichael@gc.cuny.edu. If you need help creating your project, please contact us or visit our documentation at manifoldapp.org/docs.
You can customize the appearance of the hero block of your project’s home page by adding:
- A hero image, which appears in the background
- A cover, which appears on the right side of the header
- The name of the author, and (where appropriate) contributor
- A paragraph of description
- Buttons to start reading and download the eBook
First, find your project by clicking on the “Admin Mode” button in the upper right hand corner of the screen and searching for the title (If you do not see the “Admin Mode” button, contact us at kmichael@gc.cuny.edu). Click on the project’s title to enter the edit page. To enter a description, hero image, and cover, click on “Layout’ in the menu that appears to the left of the screen. Then, click on Description + Images. A Shelf will open that will allow you to enter in a description and upload images.
You can add a wide variety of buttons, called “Calls-to-Action,” to the hero block of your home page. It may be helpful for users, especially students, to have buttons in the header that allow them to start reading, access the table of contents and/ or provide the option to download your project’s text. To add buttons to the header of your home page, click on “Calls to Action,” then click on “Add buttons to left side” or “Add button to the right side.” A shelf will open that allows you name the button and select the type of button you are adding.
You can enter in the author of the document, and, if you are not the author, you can enter yourself as a contributor. If you are not the author, entering yourself as a contributor is a good idea because it will help others find projects that you have created. To enter authors and/ or contributors, click on “People” in the menu that appears to the right of the screen and enter the names in the indicated fields. If the author or contributor has already been entered into Manifold, the field will populate with their name after you start typing.
